Though Inca culture is famous for its enduring architecture, they are not the first culture coming from the Andes. The Nazca drew hundreds of gargantuan geoglyphs of various shapes, like those of flora, and fauna, by removing the reddish stones revealing the grayish ground beneath. Though the reason for them remain unclear, scholars believe they served religious purposes. The art has been preserved for over two millennia thanks to the stable climate of the desert. In 1994, the Nazca Lines were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
