The Rosetta Stone made it into the English language, as the definition to a key unlocking previously undecipherable knowledge. Uncovered in 1799 by French explorers in Memphis, Egypt, the stone had the same text in Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic script and Ancient Greek. King Ptolmey V commissioned the stone in 196 BCE, in order to present his words to all peoples under his regime. The stone is no longer unique as many bilingual and trilingual texts were recovered afterwards, but it did serve a critical role in translating Egyptian hieroglyphics.
