In Mount Owen, New Zealand, a giant claw of the bird Upland Moa was found fully preserved. Despite the grim remains, this flightless bird was only three feet tall and known to be docile. This species was hunted to extinction in the 1500s, just like dodos, because they were inept in dealing with predators. In fact, this was only one of the smallest breeds, as some Moas reached 12 feet in height, and yet, they are all extinct for the same reason.
