Machu Picchu is one of the most visited ancient sites in the world, and the palace could house and feed 750 people at its peak. Its walls were built from perfectly chiseled stones, without any mortar, keeping it standing to this day. In addition, the complex entrance was an Inca military secret, which kept it from being destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors. Sheer cliffs and a river surround the palace while the morning mist maintained the palace as a hidden gem until it was found in 1911.
