[post_page_title]A floating palace[/post_page_title]
Caligula, the man who declared war on Neptune, the Roman god of the Oceans, built some of the oldest floating palaces in history. Emperor Caligula wasn’t one to mess around with subtleties. As he was influenced by the hedonistic hellenistic rules, he constructed two ship in 1st century CE featuring heating and plumbing – technology that was thought to be invented much later. The ships were preserved at the bottom of Lake Nemi, not far from Rome, but were destroyed by bombings during World War II.
