[post_page_title]From capture to sainthood[/post_page_title]
The patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick, first came to the country from Roman Britain through his capture by Irish pirates. He managed to escape his indebted servitude six years later, and after returning to his family, he was ordained to be a bishop, and was assigned a mission in Ireland. Many sources credit him as the founder of Christianity in the Emerald Isle, converting them to Celtic polytheism, in the fourth century CE.
