Initially a prostitute, she met her husband Cheng I, an infamous pirate, on the job, and took over the family business after his death. In the peak of her success, she led about 30,000 pirates and 300 ships in the China Seas, fighting against the Qing Dynasty and colonial powers like the British and the Portuguese.
