In reality, the Colosseum is a bit decrepit and rundown and could do with a bit of restoration. Many parts of the amphitheater are now off limits, and sadly if you look closely while walking around, you can see there are many signs of vandalism etched into the walls. It can be an underwhelming sight at the end of a four-hour long line in the blistering heat. Many tourists come here so avoiding a line is unlikely, or expensive.
