In Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, Gilderoy Lockhart, a plagiarist and fraud, is assigned as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and he turns out to be a complete disaster. People have often asked why Dumbledore employed him in the first place, but there is a theory out there that he did it just for fun. We like this theory, because it sheds light on the fact that while Albus Dumbledore may have been a powerful wizard, he enjoyed his own occasional private jokes as well.
