In the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione buys herself a new cat by the name of Crookshanks. She’s a prominent pet throughout the entire series, but theorists have suggested that there is more to her than meets the eye. Some say that she’s the same cat that James and Lily Potter once owned, when Harry was only a baby. One piece of evidence is that Crookshanks recognizes Sirius when they first meet – another is that when Harry finds an old letter written by his mother, she references a mysterious cat.
