[post_page_title]Harlem man (late 1930s) / Jay-Z[/post_page_title]
This photo isn’t even surprising. It shows a photo – posted by the New York Public Library – of a man lounging, taken sometime in the late 1930s right after the fabled Harlem Renaissance and next to it, we have rapper and Mr. Beyoncé, Jay-Z. While Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, isn’t from Harlem, he was born not too far away in the infamous Marcy projects of Brooklyn. The period of the so-called renaissance birthed a new era of African-American artistic expression, and we imagine this trailblazing rapper – and his crooner wife – would’ve fit right in.
