Fans rush to see Carrie Underwood after her face injury

It’s every artist’s worst fear to injure whatever instrument earns them fame. For recording artists, singing is only part of the grand life. There are also the magazine cover shoots, album artwork, televised award show performances, and red carpet appearances. Their face is just as much a currency as their voice. For Carrie Underwood, it wasn’t the risk of losing her powerful voice, but rather injuring her instantly recognizable face. The American Idol winner faced her fear firsthand when she suffered a nasty fall on her porch outside her Canadian home. When it was first reported we learned that Underwood broke her wrist. In January, the country diva told fans that was more to her fall than what had initially been reported. Underwood had taken such a nasty fall that she injured her face and required a whopping 40-odd stitches, as well as several visits to the doctor. She told fans in a heartfelt letter that when she is ready to return, her face may look different. “I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [Underwood’s husband – ed] Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in,” she wrote to her fans. “Now, here we are 7 weeks later and, even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same.”

Fans were eager to see what her return would look like. During her hiatus, Underwood skillfully deflected cruel rumors that swirled around the circumstances of her injury. She continued recording her upcoming album and even released her comeback single Cry Pretty just this month to rave reviews and a stellar performances at the ACM Awards. She plans on taking the summer to promote her upcoming album and a tour.

Her return was welcomed but for Carrie it didn’t come without its own trepidations. “I was at a point where I didn’t know how things were going to end up. I didn’t know what it was going to heal like,” she recently told the Bobby Bones Show. She explained that when she wrote the letter she wasn’t sure yet how her face would heal. She knew that she would soon be recognized again out in the world and feared that tabloids would report on her scars and decided to control the narrative herself.

As she continues a plots her big comeback there’s so much to look back on from Underwood’s extensive and amazing career. From her Oklahoma roots to her multi-platinum status, her rise to the top of the country charts is an impressive one.
