The best geeky date ideas

The world of dating can be a daunting one no matter who you are, just making the first step in asking someone out is a game changer. So, you’ve done the hard part, now all you need to do is come up with the best first date. First dates are awkward, you can never be sure if the relationship is going to flourish or wither, so you need to put in enough effort that it shows you’re interested, without pledging your eternal soul for the rest of your life. Now, pretty much everyone chooses the basic dinner date or a romantic walk in the park, which are fine, but if your interests are more of the geeky variety, you might want to change it up a bit.

Arcade games

Arcade games are a great way to break the ice; you will have so much to talk about being surrounded by some of the coolest games ever. You’ll be able to share an amazing evening, discovering each other’s interests and making some fun memories. The great thing about the arcade is that you can fit that in around pretty much anything, you can go for a cute meal before or after, maybe extend the date by going on a walk together, joking about who’s the best arcade gamer. Either way, this is the perfect date idea for anyone who wants a great time.

The cinema

Somewhere in the center of geek culture are movies, the movies is a pretty typical date idea, except this one will have a twist. You can forget your stereotypical horror movie and change it up for a sci-fi or fantasy flick, guaranteed you’ll both have a better time. To add a twist, you can low-key cosplay one of the characters when you go, and it’ll add some innocent giggles to the date.

Card games

This might seem a bit strange but stay with us. Card games come in all shapes and sizes, from trading cards to the real deal. Pick whichever you think would make the best impression, or all of them if you’re not sure, it’ll give you something cool to show off. Once you have those, prepare a picnic and take them to a lovely spot outside, surrounded by trees. If it’s raining, that’s fine, just do exactly the same thing, but inside!

Chess

This is more effective than you think, you don’t have to talk! You can play some cool music in the background and spend your first date trying to outdo each other, and you’ll get a sense of the other’s competitive spirit, which can say a lot about a person. Of course, it’s totally understandable if you want to save this for the second date. If you want to add that ‘wow’ factor, then find a chess board in the park, spice it up.

No matter what you choose, the most important thing is that you guys focus on each other and enjoy the company.
