Amazon, one of the most popular e-commerce platforms, has changed the face of online shopping. With an excellent customer service and a mind baffling range of products from the most iconic brands, Amazon is the ultimate shopping destination.
As of 2018, Amazon shares hit record highs and business has been booming for the e-commerce giant. Behind all this is Amazon’s chief executive officer Jeff Bezos. Valued at $140 billion, Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world, and rightly so.
Here are 5 things you never knew about the world’s richest man.

His curiosity is what brought him here

As a child, Bezos was very curious. He was intent on fixing things and finding out how they work. From a very young age, Bezos wanted to be what he called a space entrepreneur. His passion for invention and creation meant that he was always up to figuring out something or the other. He once made an alarm enabled security system in an effort to keep his siblings from entering his room.

He worked in Wall Street

Immediately after graduation, Bezos made his way into Wall Street. He was working at D.E. Shaw when he met his wife. While working at Wall Street, Bezons realized the enormous potential of the internet which was, back then, still in its initial stages of growth. During his time at Wall Street, Bezos was promoted to the post of senior vice president. In fact, he was one of the youngest ever vice presidents at that time. He quit Wall Street in 1995 and went on his way to create what would become one of the largest e-commerce platforms on the internet.

He came up with Amazon while on the road with his wife

After quitting his job, Bezos and his wife traveled from New York to Seattle to carve their niche in the booming technology industry. It was during this road trip that Bezos developed the entire business plan for Amazon. It is something we cannot imagine today given the lack of proper resources back then, but it is truly awe inspiring to hear that the idea of our favorite e-commerce platform was conceived during a road trip. Interestingly enough, Bezos initially wanted to name his company Cadabra from the word Abracadabra. His lawyer however advised him against it because of the semblance it bore to the word cadaver. Amazon was his second choice.

He can be emailed directly

Surprisingly enough, the CEO of Amazon and the richest man in the world has given out his direct email address to the public. He urged unsatisfied employees and customers to shoot him a direct mail at jeff@amazon.com. The email address was made public by Bezos in 2015 after the New York Times published an article about the corporate culture at Amazon. Nobody could have guessed that it would lead to us being able to send in an email directly to his inbox.

Today, Bezos continues his ambitious journey of making Amazon the biggest retailer in the world. We will have just to see what else is planned for the future.
